New Delhi: A Kashmiri youth group has staged protest against the international human rights group Amnesty International for its alleged bias in its human rights report on Kashmiri Pandits.
Holding placards, the group staged a silent protest outside the entrance of Siri Fort Auditorium last evening where Amnesty has organised a week-long festival to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The group Roots In Kashmir accused the Amnesty of being biased in their human rights report about Kashmiri Pandits and said that they were largely being ignored by international human rights organisations, media and international community.
"More than 50,000 refugees are still languishing in uninhabitable conditions in the refugee camps of Jammu and Kashmir, we are exiled in our own country," Roots In Kashmir member Aditya Raj Kaul said.
"Every time we protest we hear the same promises that they are looking into the matter and they give us a commitment that they will do something. But nothing has happened so far," he claimed.
When contacted, Amnesty International Director Mukul Sharma said, "They had not approached us till now. I have met them and invited to formulate a written reply. We have assured to do whatever we can."
The group also demanded the Amnesty to send its representatives to the Kashmiri Pandit camps in Jammu and Kashmir and conduct a ground survey to prepare a "true" report.
