Chennai: Attributing the BJP's victory in the just concluded Gujarat assembly elections mainly to a larger turnout of women, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said he had organised several conferences two months prior to the polls, to address their problems.
There was a three per cent increase in the women voter turn out. "This is one of the major reasons for the success of the party at the hustings," Modi said when asked about the reasons for the electoral triumph.
Addressing BJP workers here, Modi said he had taken systematic steps to address the problems of various sections - women, youth and farmers -- in the prosperous western state.
The Gujarat chief minister said he had organised 27 women conferences to address their problems two months prior to the polls. Media was kept outside the meeting venue and photographers were permitted only after heated exchanges with the police near the BJP office.
BJP's Tamil Nadu unit president L Ganesan briefed the press on Modi's speech after the the BJP leader left the venue.
