New Delhi: NRI arms dealer Suresh Nanda, who is facing a CBI probe for allegedly receiving kickbacks in the controversial Barak missile deal, has provided details of his proposed foreign visit to the Supreme Court.
In an affidavit, Nanda, who wants his passport released, provided the itinerary of his proposed three-week business trip to United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates.
The court on January 7 had asked Nanda to give details of the places he wants to visit and the duration of his stay there.
The NRI arms dealer who has been restrained from leaving the country had said in his plea that his business was suffering as a result of the seizure of his passport. He had said he has been in the country for 15 months and his business all over the world was suffering.
However, during the last hearing, the CBI had opposed the plea saying that Nanda's involvement in the deal was to be probed as he had allegedly received kickbacks in the Rs 1,150-crore defence deal with an Israeli firm.
The investigating agency had said a probe was being conducted against Nanda, son of former Navy Chief S M Nanda, who allegedly had brought in money from abroad without specifying its source.
The CBI had said investigation in the case would take some time as the case had international ramifications and it was waiting for replies from various countries on the Letters Rogatory sent to them.
The agency said once the responses were received, Nanda would be confronted with documents relating to the case.
In his plea, Nanda had challenged a Delhi High Court order restraining him from going abroad after the CBI sought his presence in the country on the ground that investigation in the case was at a preliminary stage.
The High Court had set aside a trial court order dated January 15 last, allowing the release of Nanda's passport for a business trip abroad.
The investigating agency in the High Court had expressed apprehension that Nanda might tamper with the evidence and manipulate his foreign bank accounts.
In its FIR over the controversial deal, the CBI has named former Defence Minister George Fernandes and some public servants, among others.
