Modi sees no chance of snap polls
Monday, January 14, 2008 22:49 [IST]

Guruvayur (Ker): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today discounted the possibility of early elections to the Lok Sabha, saying the political climate was not conducive for the ruling UPA as reflected by the BJP's thumping victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

"The Congress is really shocked by the BJP's victory in the two states. In this context, the Congress would not go for early Parliamentary elections," he told reporters after offering worship at the famous Sree Krishna Temple here.

To a question, he said former prime minister A B Vajpayee should be honoured with the Bharat Ratna. Taking a dig at the ruling CPI-M in Kerala, he said the Marxists were enjoying power "without being ready to shoulder challenges of development".
