KARACHI: Ten persons were killed and at least 30 others injured in a blast in an industrial area in this southern Pakistani port city on Monday, police and rescue workers said.
The blast occurred at the busy Gul Ahmed crossing at Landhi Industrial Area in Qaidabad. Most of the killed were workers of a nearby factory. Police officials said the bomb was hidden in a motorcycle that was parked in the area.
A large crowd gathered in the area after the blast, causing a traffic snarl that hampered ambulances from reaching the site of the explosion. Police and paramilitary Pakistan Rangers rushed to the spot to disperse the crowd and begin an investigation.
The Edhi Foundation, a well-known NGO, rushed over 20 ambulances to the area. All shops in the areas were closed down after the explosion.
