Record number of foreign tourists visit India

NEW DELHI: The year 2007 saw a record number of visitors from abroad and increase in foreign exchange earnings of the country through tourism.

The number of foreign tourist in India touched a record five million mark in the year 2007, an increase of 12 per cent from 2006. The estimated number of FTA in 2006 was 4.45 million, officials said.

The estimated FEE during 2007 was USD 11.96 billion as compared to USD 8.93 billion in 2006.

The growth rate in FEE, in 2007 over 2006 is 33.8 per cent as compared to the growth rate of 19.2 per cent in 2006 over 2005, they said.

The impressive performance of the tourism sector is a result of the positive image created about the country through successful branding of "Incredible India", the officials said.
