Muzaffarnagar: Farmers in Bhokaheri village near here have sent back the relief cheques given by Chief Minister Mayawati following bad harvesting last year as a gift on her birthday to protest the alleged irregularities in the distribution of relief materials.

An inquiry has been ordered into the irregularities in the distribution of relief materials, official sources said.

A Sub-Divisional Magistrate has been shifted and a Lokpal has been suspended, they said.

The farmers were handed over relief cheques after their crops were damaged by hail stone last year, but they claimed the amount was not enough to serve the purpose.

A revenue officer was also suspended for giving false estimation of the damage, they said.
