Dreaded dacoit killed in an encounter in UP

Gorakhpur (UP): The Special Task Force and Uttar Pradesh police in a joint operation killed dreaded dacoit Virendra Kurmi near Dhanyari village of adjoining Kushinagar district, police said today.

On a tip off, the STF and police laid a siege around the Dhanyari village under Tarya Sujan police circle, Deputy Superintendent of Police STF Vikas Tripathi said. At around 10 pm last night two persons on a bike were seen coming.

When police tried to stop them, they fired and in retaliatory fire Kurmi died, he said, adding his associate fled away. More than two dozen cases of loot, murder and dacoity had been registered against Kurmi in various police stations of Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria, Basti and Mahrajganj. The dacoit had Rs 10,000 reward on his head. Police also recovered a motorcycle, a mobile and a 9 mm pistol, he said.
