Bollywood touch to Maya's birthday celebrations
Tuesday, January 15, 2008 22:40 [IST]

New Delhi: It was a sort of Bollywood touch to the 52nd birthday celebrations of BSP chief Mayawati in the Capital with a song by noted singer Udit Narayan being played on the occasion.

The song Janmadin ka Jashna Bada Yadgar Ho (Let the birthday celebrations be memorable) was played right from her Humayun road residence to the party office as BSP activists distributed sweets.

Many supporters danced to beating drums, celebrating the day to mark their leader's birthday, which saw Mayawati coming to the city. Though she came to the Capital, supporters who thronged the party office to have a glimpse of their leader were disappointed as she gave a miss to the place.

"I have come here to meet madam (Mayawati) and had something to share with her, but its a disappointment for me that she is not coming here," a supporter said. "Preparations for today's function began 15 days ago," a Delhi BSP office bearer said, adding that a cake weighing 52 kg was cut and distributed among party workers, besides organising a dinner party.

The celebrations at the party office looked like a small fair, where books and CDs about BSP and Dalits were being sold. On the other hand, high security prevailed the whole day at Mayawati's residence on Humayun Road to welcome the leader, who visited the place and was there for about 20 minutes.
