Chennai: In a veiled attack against emerging leaders Vijayakanth and Sarathkumar using the name of AIADMK founder MGR (M G Ramachandran) during campaigns, its general secretary Jayalalithaa today asserted that only her party had the right to preserve the "glory and fame" of the late leader.
No other organisation had the "locus standi" to do it, she said in an open letter to party cadres on the eve of MGR's 91st birth anniversary. Taking a dig at Vijayakanth's DMDK and Sarathkumar's newly found All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi, she said some new parties had mushroomed in the state recently. "But there's no need for us to bother about those parties as people have not taken note of them," she said.
Recalling her "trials and tribulations" during efforts to "rebuild" the party after the death of MGR, Jayalalithaa exhorted partymen to take a pledge to work towards providing a "golden rule" to people of Tamil Nadu. She also launched a vitriolic attack on the DMK government, alleging that Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was unable to give a good governance and people were put to untold hardships under his regime.
Alleging deterioration of law and order, failure to contain price rise, encouragement to terrorism and bomb culture and corruption under the present government, she said the people had not benefited from the government and all schemes remained only in paper.
