Farmers advised to use modern technology

Shillong: Farmers should look beyond the traditional tools and go for modern equipment to increase production in Meghalaya where agriculture yield was sliding, state's Additional Chief Secretary W M S Pariat today said.

Besides, they should grow those products which have a better market, he said addressing a function organised to observe 2007-08 as year of the farmers . It was a good sign that some farmers have started growing flowers and new form of cultivation, Pariat said in the programme organised by the the agriculture and horticulture departments at the state central library here.

Government officials were able to have a better understanding on the need of the farmers during interactions with them during the year long celebration of the year of the farmers, he said. Forming self help groups would be of immense help in solving their problems, he said.
