Chandigarh: North Indian states such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uthrakhand and Chandigarh , with a population of approximately 71 million, need to channelise its resources to garner a minimum of one million job opportunities, out of 10 million jobs, which the prime minister predicts, the country would witness during the 11 th Five Year Plans.
This was stated by Prof Satinder Dhiman, Associate Dean , Woodbury University, California, while interacting with the media persons today here on emerging trends in management and global business opportunities with focus on North India. Prof. Dhiman, said that in addition to one million direct job opportunities, additional half could be channelised towards entrepreneurship in northern India.
While 2.5 lakh having gone overseas, remaining being employed in different parts of India and entrepreneurship ventures could muster approx. Rs 1300 crores at the given price index of today, where on the average Rs 22000 could be remitted by each overseas youth, Rs 5000 per person in domestic market and Rs 4000 approx from each self employment worthy job could have a sum of approx. 2000 crores in totality towards northern India economy.
Assuming the economic multiplier in the region could be to the tune of approx. Hence it would fetch another Rs. 1000 crore to the local economy in the entire region.
