Mumbai: Concerned over farmers suicides in Maharashtra, Janta Dal Secular (JDS) today demanded complete loan waiver for farmers.
JDS state president Sharad Patil called for urgent steps to contain the increasing farmers suicides in the state. He said that farmers suicide are not restricted to Vidharbha alone. Suicide incidents are also rampant in other districts, he told reporters.
"Complete loan waiver can help farmers and suicide cases will be reduced," Patil said. He also demanded that the banks need to give loan at four per cent interest rate ensuring that the farmers do not take loan from moneylenders. He criticised the Central Government's relief package by saying that it only helped banks not farmers. JDS is holding a massive rally on February 4 in Mumbai demanding loan waiver for the farmers. Hundreds of farmers across the state will participate in the rally, he said.
