Raipur: BJP president Rajnath Singh today expressed confidence that his party would form the next government at the Centre by winning the 2009 Lok Sabha election.
"BJP will form the government at the centre in 2009 Lok Sabha poll as there is a change in attitude of the people towards the party," he said here. "Wind is blowing in BJP's favour as reflected in the recent elections in Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab," Rajnath said after launching the ambitious Rs 3 per kg rice scheme of the BJP government in Chhattisgarh.
Functions to launch the subsidised rice scheme were organised in all the districts in the presence of senior BJP leaders. The scheme will cover 34 lakh poor families, costing the state exchequer Rs 834 crore, Chief Minister Raman Singh said.
Speaking at another function in Bilaspur, the BJP president appealed to the people to vote for BJP once again in this year's Assembly election so that the development works could continue in the state. Rajnath flayed the Congress and other parties for questioning the existence of Lord Ram.
Raking up the Ram Setu issue, Rajnath said as long as BJP was around "no one can demolish the Ram Setu". The BJP chief demanded an integrated action plan for combating Naxal violence, stating that the activities of Maoists and terrorists had increased in the recent years. "Not Chhattisgarh, but as many as 13 states and 150 districts of the country are affected by Naxal violence but the Centre is not doing anything."
