Indian High Commissioner meets Sharif
Wednesday, January 16, 2008 23:17 [IST]

Lahore: Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal called on former Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif at his residence here today. Sharif, the chief of the PML-N party, described Pal's visit as a "courtesy call". He told reporters, "We discussed matters of mutual interest."

Pal recalled steps taken by Sharif during his two terms as prime minister to improve ties with India. Sharif also said the two countries should further improve their ties so that they could forge ahead on the path to development for the good of their people.

Referring to his meetings with envoys of various countries during the last few weeks, Sharif said they all "feel strongly that elections in Pakistan should be held in a free, fair and transparent manner".
