New Delhi: Relations between India and Britain are expected to get a fresh boost when British Prime Minister Gordon Brown undertakes a visit here from Sunday during which the two sides will focus on improving business ties and enhancing cooperation on climate change and counter-terrorism.
Brown, on his maiden visit here as Prime Minister, will hold wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh reviewing the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership that was launched four years ago and exploring ways to take it further.
Regional issues, particularly Pakistan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka will also figure in the discussions during the India-UK Summit. The two sides will seek further expansion of economic linkages, collaboration in counter-terrorism and fight against climate change, joint research and development and cooperation in higher education and discuss visa issues.
"Climate change is the biggest single challenge the world faces today," British High Commissioner Richard Stagg said here today, adding the two sides will explore how they can work together to address it. Describing the recent Bali declaration as an important step, Stagg underlined the need for collective approaches by the developed and developing countries.
The developed world has the responsibility which they need to fulfil to ensure that the fight against the problem succeeds, he said while briefing media on Brown's two-day visit. But, over the time, developing countries also need to share their responsibility, he said.
