US offers assistance to WB govt to tackle bird-flu

Kolkata: The United States today offered to assist West Bengal government in tackling bird-flu which has broken out in two districts of the state and was spreading.

 "We are open to offer support if the government seeks assistance from us for bird-flu. The embassy will consider it," US Consul General in Kolkata, Henry V Jardine said here.

 It can be technical and financial, Jardine said after handing over of a grant of Rs 14 lakh to the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases in Kolkata.
