New Delhi: A major fire broke out today in a five-star hotel in south-west Delhi, two fire brigade officials were injured during the fire fighting operation while hotel staff and others escaped unhurt.

The fire was spotted at the basement of the kitchen of The Grand Hotel at Vasant Kunj at around 12:50 pm which fast spread to the ground and first floors, Chief Fire Officer R C Sharma said.
Thirty-five fire tenders were rushed to spot to douse the fire while the occupants of the hotel were immediately evacuated. "The fire started at the basement in the kitchen and then spread to the ground floor and the upper floor which has the restaurant," Sharma said. "We were also apprehensive as the area was so large that if some hidden fire is on somewhere, it will spread through false ceiling," he said.
The fire was brought under control within an hour and finally doused by 3:40 pm. The reason of the fire was not immediately known, police said adding investigation is on to ascertain it.
