Kapurthala: Punjab Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia today unfurled the national flag at Guru Nanak Stadium here and took salute from the impressive march past by the contingents of Punjab Police, Home guards, NCC cadets and school Children on the occasion of the 59th Republic Day today.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister appealed to people to remain united to defend the unity and integrity of the country.

He handed over a cheque of Rs 1.6 crore to the Deputy Commissioner for laying the sewerage system in Kapurthala town and also gave certificates of ownership to five farmers who were plouging the government land.

He also distributed thirteen tricycles, ten sewing machines and three wheel chairs to the needy persons.

 A colorful cultural programmee was presented by the school children to mark the day.
