Jordan tourist bus crash kills 20
Saturday, January 26, 2008 22:17 [IST]

Amman: At least 20 people were killed today when a tour bus collided with a water tanker on a highway in northern Jordan, the police said. At least 30 others were wounded, including three people in critical condition, police spokesman Mohammed al-Khatib said.

The tour bus, which was operated by the privately owned Jordanian Trust Co, was travelling from the northern town of Jerash to Irbid, located about 88 kilometers north of the capital, Amman, when it crashed with the tanker and overturned into a valley.

Police were investigating the accident, which was believed to have involved mainly Jordanian citizens, al-Khatib said. It was not immediately clear if foreigners were injured or killed in the crash, he said. The bus began its journey earlier today from the southern Red Sea port city of Aqaba and crashed midday, the police spokesman said.
