Munger: Thieves looted Rs 27 lakh from the main post office here today following which authorities suspended 10 Homeguards guarding the post office.

Superintendent of Police of Munger, Shalin said some thieves entered the post office in the wee hours today when the Homeguards were asleep, broke open the locker and took away the money.

All the 10 homeguards posted to guard the post office, located at Bhagat Singh roundabout in the heart of the town, were placed under suspension, the SP said.

"I have also recommended that the Homeguards be dismissed," he said and suspected that the homeguards might have "connived" with them in the burglary.

Raids continued to recover the money and apprehend those involved in it, he added.
