Air link between Kashmir and Kargil resumes

Srinagar: Air link between the Kashmir valley and Kargil resumed today after being suspended for nearly 15 days.

A batch of 91 passengers left for Kargil from Srinagar in an AN-32 flight and 88 passengers arrived here from Kargil, a government spokesman said.

A MI-17 Air Force flight carrying 14 passengers including five pilgrims also operated today between Bandipore and Gurez, he said, adding the air link was suspended for almost 15 days due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Meanwhile, cold wave conditions intensified further in the valley with night temperature remaining several notches below normal. Srinagar experienced cold night with minimum temperature dipping to minus 6.4 degrees Celsius, a MeT official said.

Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir continued to be the coldest place in the valley with minimum temperature dipping to minus 15.4 degrees Celsius.
The neighbouring Kokernag recorded a temperature of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius, the official said.

Qazigund also experienced a chilly night with minimum temperature dipping to minus 7.0 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature dipped to 3.4 degree Celsius in Jammu. Bhaderwah in Kishtwar district of Jammu recorded minimum temperature of minus 3.4 degree Celsius, followed by Banihal at minus 0.2 degree Celsius.
