Sunday, February 10, 2008 09:07 [IST]

Lucknow: Police and security agencies today claimed to have cracked the New Year's suicide attack on a CRPF camp in Rampur as well as the attack on Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore with the arrest of six suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba militants in Uttar Pradesh.

Three suspected LeT militants - Suhail, Arshad Ali alias Baba and Fahyeem - were arrested from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh in the wee hours today along with a large cache of arms and ammunitions, official sources said today.

Meanwhile, Salahuddin, a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, and Imran and Farooq - both resident of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) were arrested from Lucknow, they said.

During interrogation Salahuddin emerged as the brain behind the Rampur as well as Bangalore attack. Heavily-armed militants in an attack on the CRPF camp in Rampur had killed eight persons, including seven security personnel.

In Bangalore attack, one Delhi-IIT professor was killed by militants. Hand grenades and RDX were recovered from their possession, the sources said, adding the militants were planning to leave the town for Mumbai when they were nabbed.
