Jakarta:Ten persons died in a stampede as hundreds of music fans streamed out of a rock concert in the Indonesian city of Bandung, a police chief said in a report today.

It was not immediately clear what caused the stampede after the concert by an underground music band late yesterday.

"Ten persons were killed, one of them has not yet been identified. Six others were injured," Bandung police chief Bambang Suparsono told the Detikcom online news portal.

He said an investigation was underway. Detikcom, quoting another police officer, said the capacity of the building was for 700 people but only that around 400 attended the concert.

Some 40 people have been questioned, it added. An officer on duty at the Bandung police headquarters declined to comment, saying only Suparsono had the authority to speak on the case.
