Bride, six others killed in road mishap

Theni: Seven members of a marriage party, including the bride, were killed when their vehicle collided head-on with a truck near here, police said today.

Twelve people were going from Cumbum in the district for the marriage in Madurai today when the mishap took place at Andipatti, about 15 km from here, last night, they said. Besides the bride, the deceased included two children.

Those killed in the accident were identified as bride Hemalatha (20), Sanju (4), Sarves (5), Rangasamy (70) and Seetha (40). Two others, Suresh (40) and Ilangovan (48), later succumbed to injuries in a hospital, police said.

Five others were undergoing treatment in Theni Medical College hospital, where their condition was stated to be serious.

Superintendent of Police R Sudhakar visited the spot and led to operations to take out the victims from the mangled remains of the ill-fated Tata Sumo.
The driver of the truck was absconding, police said.
