70% children immunised in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh: About 70 per cent children between the age of 0-5 years, were administered polio drops under the National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) round which was held in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

During the three-day campaign about one crore children would be covered in the two states and during these two days house-to-house activities would also carried out to administer polio vaccine to the left out children, official sources said here. During the round special attention was being given to the slums, far-flung areas, isolated hutments, brick, kilns and floating and migrating population wherever pockets of children would remain un-immunised.

The Polio virus sustains survival and circulation. After the successful round of plus polio immunization the areas of Poliovirus circulation would be reduced, sources said. The people were also advised to get immunised their children on February 11 and 12 also, who had been left out.
