Cong to demonstrate for cause of farmers
Sunday, February 10, 2008 20:24 [IST]

Lucknow: Congress would hold a demonstration in front of the Ramkola sugar mill in Kushinagar district on February 19 in protest against the failure of the mill to clear the arrears of farmers.

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and in-charge of the party's affairs in UP Digvijai Singh and UPCC President Reeta Bahuguna Joshi would also be present on this occasion, UPCC spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said here today.

Singh alleged that the sugar mills in the state owed over Rs one thousand crore to farmers as cane dues. He charged the BSP government with doing precious little to exert pressure on the mills to clear the dues.
