New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi today paid tributes to former President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed on the eve of his 31st death anniversary.
"Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed played an important role in our freedom struggle. He was also an ardent nationalist and an able administrator," a communique, quoting the President, said here. Gandhi, in her message to Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Memorial Committee, which is organising a nationwide prayer tomorrow, said "he was a devout nationalist, patriot and secularist. He was also a stalwart Congressman who was deeply committed to public service."
The Committee, in a release, said the main prayer meeting, which would be attended by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also, would be held at the mazar (grave) of former President here tomorrow.
