New Delhi: The Congress tonight appeared unconcerned over Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's threat to withdraw support to the party-led government at the Centre after March 10.
"It is up to her to withdraw or support. The Congress is not going to buckle under any type of threat," party spokesman Shakil Ahmad told PTI. He said such type of things would not divert the attention of the government from path of development. Ahmad was commenting on Mayawati's remarks earlier in the day that she would consider withdrawal of support to the UPA government after March 10, once the ongoing UP assembly budget session ends.
Addressing a Sarva Jan Samaj Bhaichara Banao Maharally organised by the BSP at Bhopal, the UP Chief Minister alleged that Opposition parties have been raking up fake cases against her to mount political pressure. She blamed the Congress-led UPA government of trying to reopen the Taj Corridor case against her as it was "jealous" of BSP's growth.
Referring to the Centre's denial of SPG cover to strengthen her security in the wake of perceived threats to her life, she said it was another move by Congress to mount pressure on her.
