Cold wave continues in Kashmir Valley

Srinagar: Kashmir Valley continued to reel under cold wave conditions today with the minimum temperature plunging to minus 10 degrees Celsius, freezing water taps and disrupting normal life.

The hill resort of Pahalgam in South Kashmir was the coldest place in the state where minimum temperature dipped to minus 10 degrees Celsius followed by Qazigund (minus 8.0), Kupwara (minus 7.2 ), Srinagar (minus 6.2), Kokernag (5.6), the Met office said.

In Jammu region, Bhaderwah recorded a low of minus 3.5 degrees Celsius followed by Banial (minus 2.2) and Batote (minus 0.7). Jammu city recorded a minimum temperature of 4.7 degrees while Katra, the base camp of Vaisnodevi temple, recorded a low of 4.8 degrees Celsius.

Water taps in major parts of Kashmir Valley froze, adding to the problems of the residents. Movement on roads was thin as they had become slippery due to snow.
