ASI held for accepting bribe

Srinagar: A police officer has been arrested for allegedly accepting bribe from a man in the city. Assistant sub-inspector Manzoor Ahmad was caught while accepting the bribe from one Mohammad Hussain Bhat yesterday, a spokesman of the state vigilance organisation said today.

Bhat had complained to the vigilance organisation that the police officer was demanding money for giving a favourable report in his favour. Meanwhile, an assistant executive engineer of public works department and a doctor posted in Budgam district were suspended for remaining absent unauthorisedly last week.

Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Farooq Ahmad Renzu said the two officers had left the station without permission from the district administration.
