Jaya wants Prez rule to be imposed in TN
Monday, February 11, 2008 18:15 [IST]

Chennai: AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa today asked the Centre to impose President's rule in Tamil Nadu alleging that law and order has deteriorated in the state due to "infiltration" of extremist groups and banned outfits.

In a statement here, she claimed that the looting of weapons from Adhiyamankottai police station in Dharmapuri district by Naxalites a few days ago had "vindicated" her often repeated allegation that law and order had deteriorated in the state.

The suspected naxalites stormed into the police station on February nine and decamped with four guns, six revolvers, a bayonet and a walkie-talkie, after threatening the sub-inspector, two head constables and one constable who were on duty.

"Violence is on the rise in the state. The LTTE, Maoists and other banned outfits are considering Tamil Nadu as a safe haven," she said.

She urged the Centre to impose President's rule in the state to protect people and to put an end to the "violence culture" in Tamil Nadu.
