Ex-ADC accused of sexual harassment
Monday, February 11, 2008 19:16 [IST]

Mumbai: An IPS officer, who was earlier an aide-de-camp (ADC) of the governor of Maharashtra, Deepak Pandey has once again been embroiled in a controversy.

Pandey, who is at present the superintendent of police of Akola district, has been accused of sexual harassment by a woman there.

The woman filed an affidavit in a local court in Akola on Friday. The court has asked the director general of police (DGP) of the state to inquire into the allegations.

Talking to DNA on Sunday, DGP Dr PS Pasricha said, “It is true that a lady has filed an affidavit complaining of sexual harassment against him. We are making inquiries into the allegations and will take the matter to its logical end.”

Pandey, a 1999 IPS batch officer, was under suspension for a couple of years after his wife Nidhi, an IAS officer, had filed a complaint in November 2004 of alleged dowry harassment and torture. Pandey then was the ADC to the then governor Mohammed Fazal.

Pandey was booked by Azad Maidan Police Station in Mumbai with charges of subjecting his wife to cruelty (section 498-A, IPC) and criminal intimidation (section 506, IPC).

Nidhi, working as deputy CEO in the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority, had complained to the then director general of police KK Kashyap that her husband had subjected her to physical and mental torture and had even threatened to kill her with his service revolver.

Pandey’s suspension was revoked by the court last year, and he was posted as superintendent of police in Akola
