Three kidney racket accused handed over to CBI
Monday, February 11, 2008 20:03 [IST]

Gurgaon/Moradabad: The Uttar Pradesh Police today handed over to the CBI three persons arrested in connection with the global kidney transplant racket unearthed last month.

Doctor Upendra, his driver Jagdeesh and one Gaysu, the three accused, were produced before a court in Gurgaon which remanded them to 14 days CBI custody.

The three were arrested on January 24 by the Moradabad Police during a raid at the hospital of doctor Amit Kumar, the alleged kingpin of the racket.

Earlier in the day, the UP Police handed over the three to the CBI which is probing the multi-crore organ transplant racket. The agency had sought their custody for further investigation in the case.

Before the CBI got the 14-day custody, the three were produced before a Moradabad court which allowed them to be shifted to Gurgaon.

"An application was filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Moradabad, which allowed the three to move to Gurgaon," SSP Moradabad Prem Prakash said.

Yesterday, doctor Amit Kumar, dubbed as "Dr Horror", was remanded to the CBI custody till February 22 by a Delhi court to enable the agency probe national and international ramifications of the racket.
