Diamond Harbour: A three-year-old boy of in South 24-Parganas district has become the second reported polio victim in West Bengal this month.
Sahabuddin developed the disease in December last when the disease showed symptoms in hands and legs. The father of the child, however, kept the matter a secret, District Magistrate Sanghamitra Ghosh said today.
The matter came to light when the ailing boy's mother took him to a pulse polio camp in late January at her native village Basanti. On her return to Maheshtala, the entire family and the locals woke up to the danger of the disease, Ghosh said.
Sahabuddin had never been vaccinated against polio before January because of his father's objections, Ghosh said adding treatment was being arranged for the polio victim, second reported in the past ten days in the state.
