Ahmedabad: The two-member Congress team, sent by party president Sonia Gandhi, today demanded CBI inquiry in Patan gang rape case in which a student of Primary Teachers Training College was allegedly repeatedly raped by her six teachers.
The team comprising women Members of Parliament Krishna Tirth and Prabha Thakur visited Patan PTC college and also met the 18-year-old alleged victim and her parents.
"The government should order CBI inquiry in the case as we have found out that the sexual abuse of girls was going on for quiet some time in the college," Tirth told reporters here.
She demanded that state government should make arrangements for her resettlement in the mainstream and also provide her job after completion of her studies. "The state government has given compensation of Rs one lakh to her. Will that money fill the wounds of the girl," Tirth asked.
She alleged that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has no time to meet the victim.
"The girl comes from Dalit family and her parents are very poor. The state government should give them justice and if they are not able to do that then they should step down," she said.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the state government on the gang-rape case. A team of National Commission of Women had also visited Patan to inquire into the happenings at the PTC college.
