RATLAM (MP): In order to allow jail inmates to communicate with their families, prisoners in Madhya Pradesh will soon be able to call their family members over phone from the jail premises, Inspector General (IG) Prisons, H K Sarin has said.
"The facility of providing connectivity through telephone to jail inmates is also aimed at easing pressure of daily visitors to the jails where they used to come everyday to meet the prisoners," Sarin told reporters on Wednesday.
He also informed that jail administration through private participation has introduced vocational training courses for the jail inmates so that after their release they get some work.
The IG further informed that Tata international company engaged in the business of leather goods is imparting training to the jail inmates at Ujjain.
Referring to the capacity of jails, he said that against the total capacity of 20,500 prisoners, nearly 33,500 persons are lodged in various jails of the state.
To a question on shortage of jail staff, he admitted that there is a shortage of jail wardens in the state.
