Kanishka case: Public hearing begins today
Thursday, February 14, 2008 08:44 [IST]

Toronto: The two-day concluding public hearing into the 1985 Air-India bombing that killed 329 people began today.

After the hearings, the Air India public inquiry commission headed by Justice John major will start working on the final report, that is likely to be submitted this spring.

The commission would give recommendations how to prevent such tragedies. Justice Major will hear the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Intelligence Security Service and Toronto University professor Sherene Razack.

Though some relatives of the Air India bombing victims were also expected to make their submissions, they decided against it.

The commission has heard the families of the victims, most of them Canadian. It is also looking into charges of investigative bungling and examining startling accusations that CSIS, Canada's security agency, intentionally initiated a cover up.
