Kohima: Prominent social worker Manik Bhattacharjee died at his residence in Dimapur, family sources said today.
Bhattacharjee, who was the epitome of a cosmopolitan society at Dimapur, died after prolonged illness yesterday. He was 74 and is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.
Popularly known as Manik Da in Nagaland, Bhattacharjee immersed himself with the activities of social organisations and educational institutions. He always stood up for voices of the common citizens in Dimapur.
Born in a family of freedom fighters in Sylhet district of Assam province in undivided India, Bhattacharjee was greatly influenced by his lawyer and freedom fighter father Rajendra Chandra Bhattacharjee.
