New Delhi: Controversial businessman Abhishek Verma, who allegedly used his defence contacts to procure sensitive information pertaining in Navy war room leak case, feels threatened from fellow undertrials.
In an application moved in a court, he has sought a separate van for transporting him from jail to court - a request which was accepted by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Sanjeev Jain today.
After going through Verma's application, Jain said, "Keeping in view the apprehensions or threats from Undertrial Prisoners (UTPs) to accused, Verma, I order the DCP Third Battalion to provide him a separate van while coming from Central jail to the Tis Hazari Court and going back."
Verma submitted that he had received several alleged threats and extortion demands from high risk UTPs namely Krishan Solanki, Charanjeet Chopra, H K Sharma, Ranjeet and others. He also apprehended danger to his life from these anti-social elements.
In this regard, the police have also registered an FIR in the Hari Nagar police station against these accused persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 506 (criminal intimidation) and 387 (extortion), Verma stated in his application. Source : PTI
