Trinamool issues fresh threat to Tata Motors
Wednesday, February 20, 2008 18:55 [IST]

Kolkata: Issuing a fresh threat to Tata Motors, Trinamool Congress (TC) today said permanent police security cannot be provided by the West Bengal government at its Singur site and asked the company not to go ahead with its plan to manufacture small cars.

"It will not be feasible for the Tatas to bring out its small car from the Singur plant before the farmers who have not given consent to the land acquisition by the state government get back their land," Trinamool leader Partha Chatterjee said. "It is easy for the Tata Motors to make a statement on its production plan with police security from the state government, which cannot be a permanent thing," Chatterjee, who is Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal assembly, said.

"We once again state that the Tatas should try to understand the sentiments of the local people," Chatterjee added. The threat came after Tata Motors managing director Ravi Kant visited Singur today to review the progress of the construction of the factory and reiterated the company's resolve to meet its manufacturing deadline. The trail production of Nano, Tata's small car, would begin by June or July, Kant said.
