No possibility of tsunami at Indian coast: INCOIS
Wednesday, February 20, 2008 19:02 [IST]

New Delhi: There is no possibility of a tsunami hitting any Indian region following the massive undersea earthquake off Sumarta, officials said.

"There is no possibility of a tsunami," a senior official at the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) told PTI from Hyderabad. A strong 7.3-magnitude quake shook Indonesia's Sumatra island today. The undersea quake struck at 3:08 pm (13.38 IST) some 312 kilometres west-southwest of the North Sumatra capital Medan, at a depth of 34 kilometres.

There have been no changes in the water level in the sea, said the official at INCOIS, which houses the Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning System.
