Mumbai: Advocate Ashok Sarogi, former lawyer of extradited gangster Abu Salem, today moved a sessions court here for anticipatory bail in connection with his associate trying to commit suicide.
Adhoc Additional Sessions judge M Y Mankar, however, rejected the application as the offence registered against him was bailable.
The court has also ordered police to intimate Sarogi about his arrest 48 hours in advance.
"We were apprehensive that at the end moment police could come up with some serious section which would result in his arrest. The court has agreed and passed an order in our favour. We are not apprehensive about what they could do but about the insult that would come with," said Sarogi s lawyer, Harmesh Nagi.
Sarogi s associate, Pallavi Ashar had allegedly attempted suicide on February 19,citing Sarogi as the main reason for her drastic step in her statement. Asher, who was romantically being linked with Salem, alleged that he was trying to tarnish her image.
Sarogi has been booked along with three others for charges of outraging the modesty of a woman and criminal conspiracy.
