Hearing in Dera chief case put off to March

Ambala: A CBI court today deferred the hearing in the three criminal cases against the Dera Sacha Sauda Chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to March 8 as the latter did not appear in the designated court due to illness.

His counsel Surya Prakash filed an application in the court seeking exemption from personal appearance to the Dera chief for today as he was not well. Accepting the request of the counsel Special Judge R K Saini exempted Singh from personal appearance and fixed March 8 for the next hearing in the case.

The arguments on framing charges against the Dera chief was to begin in the designated court today. The three cases against the Dera chief and six others are related to the alleged murders of Dera Manager Ranjit Singh and a Sirsa-based journalist Ramchander Chatrapati and sexual exploitation of a Dera sadhvi (woman disciple).
