Chennai: The Federation of Highways Engineers Associations today said it would observe a one-day token fast in Chennai on February 26 demanding arrest of the driver of the car which attempted to mow down two officials supervising demolition of an unauthorised temple in Kanyakumari district.
"Car driver Senthilkumar is yet to be arrested though police have filed an FIR," A Venkatachalam, general secretary, Highways Engineers Association, told reporters here.
The arrest was part of several other demands put forward by the Federation. "We want full police protection while involved in such work," he said.
In a shocking incident, that was caught on tape, a speeding Ambassador car hit two Highways engineers - Anthony Xavier and Sundaram - and a policeman on duty, while they were engaged in demolishing the structure at Takkalai in Kanyakumari on February 6, leaving the three injured. The incident occurred in broad day-light before scores of people.
