Saturday, February 23, 2008 19:59 [IST]

Garwah (Jharkhand): Two naxalites, including one self-styled Zonal Commander of the CPI (Maoist), were today killed in a special action against the ultras named Operation Victor at Dhenkua in Garwah district.

Police said when securitymen raided the area, the ultras fired and in the ensuing encounter two ultras were killed. Later the bodies were recovered from the spot. "One Pramandalji, Zonal Commander, was among the two killed in the encounter on Palamau-Garwah border. He was involved in the killing of a Superintending Engineer in undivided Bihar in 1999", Deputy Inspector General of Police, R K Mullick told PTI in Ranchi.

Mullick said a pistol and two rifles were recovered from the spot. The pistol was stolen from the Garu block development officer recently. To counter naxal violence in Jharkhand, the Centre has already decided to send 600 additional securitymen to the state, official sources said.
