LTTE front outfit attempts to raise funds in UK
Tuesday, February 26, 2008 09:43 [IST]

London: Unfazed by two flopped attempts, a front organisation of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is allegedly planning a new show here to raise funds for the Tiger rebels.

The show called as Illam Kaatru (Wind of Eelam) is scheduled to be held in the Great Hall in Hatch End in Harrow on March 1 by the Tamil Youth Organisation, which allegedly has links with the banned LTTE, sources said here today. The previous show at London's Alexandra Palace flopped as South Indian stars refused to come here after adverse reports, sources said. Subsequently, a show scheduled at Paris was also called off.

This time the Tamil Youth Organisation (TYO), the organisers, are relying more on local talent.

According to an advertisement put out by the organisers, "the show will include a wide range of dance performances ranging from dynamically-choreographed classical street, hip hop to our most loved Dapaan Koothu! It will be followed by a fashion show and musical performance by young musicians from the UK."

The advertisement said the proceeds from the event would be donated to TYO's working project: The Youth Centre for Science and Education in Visvamadu. Sri Lanka has complained to the British police that Visvamadu is in the LTTE stronghold of Wanni and the funds would directly go to the coffers of the insurgent group waging war with the Sri Lankan government, the sources said.
