Five killed in Afghanistan roadside blast
Tuesday, February 26, 2008 14:56 [IST]

Kabul: Five people, including a child, were killed on Tuesday when their vehicle hit a mine in the eastern Afghan province of Khost, an interior ministry official said.

The incident occurred at around 8:30 am in Yaqubi district when the police van struck a mine presumably planted by Taliban insurgents, killing all five on board, said an official on condition of anonymity.

The victims include four policemen and one child who was accompanying his father in the van, he said.

There was no immediate comment from the Taliban.

Conflicts and Taliban-related insurgency left more than 6,000 people dead in Afghanistan in the last one year.
