College closed down in Pak after bombing threat
Tuesday, February 26, 2008 14:57 [IST]
Islamabad: A women's college in Pakistan's troubled North West Frontier Province has been shut down for an indefinite period following a threat of a suicide attack.

The Government Degree College for Women in Haripur, 65 km north of the federal capital, was shut down yesterday after its administration received a threatening letter.

Chand Attaullah, the principal of the college, told police that a watchman delivered the letter to her, Dawn newspaper reported today.

The letter contained a cellphone number and when Attaullah called that number, a man confirmed that he had sent the letter. He also directed her to inform other educational institutions to close down as well.

District police chief Nasir Satti confirmed that a letter had been received but described it as a hoax. He said policemen had been deployed around the college and investigations were underway.
