Islamabad: A political leader was seriously injured along with three of his guards in a roadside blast in northwest Pakistan's troubled tribal belt today, more than a week after surviving a suicide attack on his election office that had left nearly 50 people dead.
Riaz Hussain Shah, an independent candidate backed by the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), was travelling from Parachinar, the headquarters of Kurram Agency, to Peshawar when his car was targeted with a roadside bomb this morning, reports reaching here said. Shah and three of his bodyguards were seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Parachinar.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack. Shah had escaped unhurt in a suicide attack on his election office on February 16 which killed nearly 50 people and injured over 100. The Election Commission postponed elections in Parachinar after the suicide bombing.
